Re: Re: $100/month pension increase in 2006 For COLA Eligible Retirees!/Trustee
Election Results/1099's For 2005 Issued After February 1st/General Update
There will be an increase in all COLA eligible annuitants' benefits of $100.00 per month effective January 1, 2006 which will begin with the January checks to be paid at the end of January 2006! Again this year, there was just a certain amount of funding available for this purpose and it was decided the fairest way to use these funds was to grant a flat dollar amount increase of $100.00 per month to each COLA eligible annuitant. The amount will be prorated for those who first took retirement during the year 2005.
The results of the trustee elections for the pension board trustee position whose three (3) year term begins in January 2006 is as follows:
Congratulations to Phil Jack for being elected to the pension board again! The pension board appreciates Brad Ballard who agreed to run for this position this year. In addition, the pension board and staff would like to thank Ken Cox for his past three years of dedicated service on the pension board.

The best way to make benevolent fund payments is to mail them to Eric Pederson at Fire St.20(A), 6601 Manchaca Rd., Austin, TX 78745. Make the checks out to: Local 975 Benevolent Fund. Eric's phone number is (512)441-7335(Home) and (512)922-4332(Cell).
Want to be on an e-mail buddy list? Due to budget constraints, we can not always do a mass mail-out immediately after we lose one of our retirees. We are limited to getting a newsletter such as this one to our retirees about every quarter. We realize many retirees do not hear about losing one of their fellow retirees until well after the fact. However, it has been suggested to send an e-mail to certain retirees who can then contact other retirees and friends that they keep in contact with. If you would like to be an e-mail contact (buddy) who we can send a quick e-mail to and help get word out to other retirees, please contact our office. Our e-mail address is: firstname.lastname@example.org should you be interested. Our website address is AFRS.ORG, which can be read for updates as well.
On another important note about 1099's: please remember that the deadline for your 1099R's (sometimes referred to as W-2's) to be mailed out to you each year is January 31st. State Street Bank needs all of that time to be sure everything has been tested for accuracy. Please be aware of this as you will probably not receive your 1099 until after February 1st. Your patience is most appreciated.
We would also like to remind all of you about the retiree breakfast group which meets every second Wednesday at about 8:00 am at the Owens Restaurant in the vicinity of IH-35 and Hwy 290 East. This is a fun time and a great way to keep in touch with one another.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let us know. On behalf of our pension board, Linda Adney and I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday season!
