Re: The 2004 Annual Report/General Update
We have enclosed a copy of our 2004 annual report for your review. Our pension fund had an 11.4% return in 2004, and as Mayor Wynn says we still have challenging times ahead to keep our pension fund sound and strong. Your pension board is committed to doing just that.
Want some good news? If you haven't already, you should be hearing from the City of Austin soon about the medical insurance for next year. We hear the medical rates are not going up next year for retirees, except for some dental coverage. How many times has that happened? You will be updated by the City of Austin on this during upcoming open enrollment.
Just a quick note. Since our last update we have lost two widows, Edith Sobeck and Ruth Oertli. For benevolent fund review, the following are our deceased retirees for 2005.
|James D. Hendrix, Jr. (79)
|Roy L. Ryden (79)
|Alejandro (Alex) R. Trevino (58)
|Edith Sobeck (widow of Vernon)
|Ruth Oertli (widow of "Pete")
The best way to make benevolent fund payments is to mail them to Eric Pederson at Fire St.20(A), 6601 Manchaca Rd., Austin, TX 78745. Make the checks out to: Local 975 Benevolent Fund. Eric's phone number is (512)441-7335(Home) and (512)922-4332(Cell).
We would also like to remind all of you about the retiree breakfast group which meets every second Wednesday at about 8:00 am at the Owens Restaurant in the vicinity of IH-35 and Hwy 290 East. This seems to be a fun time and a good way to keep in touch with one another.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let us know.
