Re: Hurricane Katrina Volunteer List
We have been asked by some of our retirees what they may be able to do to help the people affected by Hurricane Katrina.
I have spoken to Michelle DeCrane who is the public information manager with the Austin Fire Department. Ms. Decrane's phone number is (512) 974-0151. She said that they are not sending any more personnel to Louisiana, but there has been a call for volunteers at the Austin Convention Center.
They will be soliciting volunteers from a sign-up list on their intranet. You can also register by e-mailing her at: firstname.lastname@example.org and register with your TXFIR and ID. If you can provide those two pieces of information, they can add you to the list. Otherwise you can call 2-1-1 and register with the City of Austin to volunteer (they are establishing a volunteer program separate from the Red Cross).
Also, contributions can be made to the Red Cross (specifying it's for Katrina relief) or the Salvation Army. We are sure any amount of money or time will be welcomed.
